Kenya’s 1500m Olympic Silver medalist Timothy Cheruiyot is set to renew his rivalry with reigning Olympic champion Jacob Ingebrigtsen when the two compete at the Lausanne Diamond League set to take place Friday 26 August 2022 in Switzerland.
The two athletes will be going head to head once again after close battles in the recent past that has seen the two fight at the front in various 1500m events.

In the postponed Tokyo Olympics, Ingebrigtsen defeated Cheruiyot to the Gold medal but the Kenyan athlete atoned for that loss by pipping the Norwegian sensation to the 2021 Diamond league title.
The two failed to live up to their recent history at the 2022 World Athletics Championships as Cheruiyot lost his title after a sixth-place finish with Ingebrigtsen forced to settle for second place in the race that was won by Britain's Jake Wightman.
“Jakob Ingebrigtsen will race at Athletissima this Friday. The young Norwegian prodigy, who won a second consecutive double 1500-5000m at the European Championships in Munich last week will be the attraction of a 1500 m which promises to be very fast at the Pontaise stadium. His main rivals will be Kenyans Timothy Cheruiyot, world champion in 2019, and Abel Kipsang,” the Diamond League posted.

Cheruiyot is expected to face a tough challenge from Ingebrigtsen as the 21-year-old Norwegian is coming off an exceptional season which saw him win the world title in Eugene (USA) last month in the 5000m before his double title in the European Championships.
He dominated his opponents in Munich over 1500m as he led from start to finish to set a new Championship record (3:32.76).
Cheruiyot on the other hand comes into the race after being denied a chance of winning Commonwealth Gold in Birmingham as Australia’s Oliver Hoare won on the line.
Joining the two will be African champion Abel Kipsang who will be hoping to tear the rule book as he has shown he is well capable of.
