This is a back-to-back win for Kenyan athletes as Eliud Kipchoge had begged the September moment of the month for his world record.
Ruth Chepngetich defended her Chicago Marathon title on Sunday 9 October in a dominant display breaking the tape in 2:14.18 and her performance has been voted world Athletics’ October moment of the month.

Chepngetich who ran a solo race with unbelievable splits that at some point had projected her winning time to be almost four minutes of the current world record held by Brigid Kosgei led a Kenyan double as compatriot Benson Kipruto cruised to victory in the men’s race in 2:04:24.
The Kenya Prisons athlete had built up an early lead and established an astonishing 3 minutes 42 seconds advantage over the chasing pack by the halfway point.
Charging to the line with no one else in sight, the 2019 world champion was in a race against the clock as she tried to break the world record but came up 14 seconds short.
“I wanted to break the world record, but I am happy with the win,” Chepngetich said. “Next year I’m ready to come back again.”
