The 2024 Mozzart Bet Re-Discover Nandi Road race winner Faith Chepchirchir is hoping to win the New Delhi Half Marathon on Sunday in under 70 minutes.

Chepchirchir is among the Kenyan athletes who will grace the race with the highlight of the event and all eyes are being trained on 5,000 and 10,000 record holder as well Olympic champion Joshua Cheptegei of Uganda in the men's category.

Commonwealth Games 10,000 champion Eilish McColgan is perhaps the biggest name in the women's category whose course record is held by Yalemzerf Yehualaw.

McColgan will be seeking to go a step higher on the podium having finished second in last year's event.

Chepchirchir told Mozzart Sport that she will be teaming up with her compatriot Cynthia Limo in her quest to clinch gold in the race and stop the clock inside her projected time.

"I am hoping to win the race in under 70 minutes. I anticipate tough competition as the race ordinary draws top runners. I have, however, prepared well and looking forward to win it," she said.

The New Delhi race will be the third half marathon for Chepchirchir and her second in the month having won in Lisbon on 6 October.

The 23-year-old marked her debut in the half marathon with a third-place in the Tamesna, Morocco earlier in January.

"I have made it to the podium in my past two half marathon races and I pray to make it three on Sunday. The support and encouragement from Limo will go a long way in delivering the gold medal," she said.

Ethiopians Amdework Walelegn (58:53) and Yalemzerf Yehualaw (64:46) have held the Course Records since 2020.

The Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon, with a prize pool of USD 260,000 (Ksh33.7 million) will begin at the iconic Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, where elite athletes will be joined by India’s top runners and passionate amateurs.
