Vivian Cheruiyot, via an article published on a local paper, accused former athlete Abraham Kipkosgei Chelanga of misleading his husband and colluding with him to spend their money on young women

Former marathon runner Abraham Kipkosgei Chelanga has denied allegations by Vivian Cheruiyot that he is colluding with her husband, Moses Kiplagat, to spend her money on young women, effectively destroying their marriage.

According to Chelanga, he made enough money during his athletic career and has established himself, so he does not need Cheruiyot's money or her husband's. He claims that Cheruiyot's brother is the source of the conflict, as he wants to manage Cheruiyot's property, which is now managed by Kiplagat.

“All these allegations are false, and are meant to destroy my name. I have invested, and I have kids and a family with no conflicts whatsoever. It went to an extent of my pastor coming to my place to inquire about the same and this has really shocked my family.” Chelanga told Mozzart Sport,

“All these conflicts did not arise because of ladies or other grudges with Vivian. There is a brother of Vivian known as Kaka who wants to control his sister’s property, and it has been push and pulls between him (Kaka) and Cheruiyot’s husband. That’s the only reason.” he added.

Kiplagat and Cheruiyot have invested in lucrative businesses including petrol stations and in real estate among other businesses.

Chelanga further says that he and Kiplagat cannot be misled because they are Christians and do not drink alcohol. He also denied claims that he and Kiplagat went to Kerio Valley to visit one of Kiplagat's alleged young women after the Sirikwa Classic meet.

"You cannot mislead an adult. Kiplagat is over 50 years while I am only 37. How could I be misleading an adult? He should be the one misleading me instead." A bitter Chelanga lamented.

Chelanga claims that he, Cheruiyot and her husband have been close family friends for a long time. He even explains that during the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, Cheruiyot and her husband paid him a visit at his home in Kapcherop, where they had a wonderful time together. They have also gone on several road trips together as close family friends.

He is now demanding that Cheruiyot publish an apology through the same medium she used to channel the claims, citing it as defamation, and is seeking advice from his lawyer on the way forward.
