Chebet, Simiu deliver double for police at Olkalau X-Country

AK have introduced a trial for the World Athletics Cross Country Championships set for 10 December in Ruiru.
Olympics 5000m silver medalist Beatrice Chebet and her police counterpart, Commonwealth Games 10,000m silver medalist Daniel Simiu carried the day at the fourth leg of the Athletics Kenya (AK) Cross Country series held in Olkalau.
Chebet, clocked 34:23.3 to win the women's race ahead of Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) Cynthia Chepngeno who timed 34:24.7 and Nakuru-based Naomi Chepngeno who completed the podium places in 34:27.

In the men's senior race, Simiu, who fell short in the third AK Cross Country leg held in Sotik, Bomet County made up for his second place finish with victory in Olkalau.
The Standard Chartered Nairobi half marathon champion clocked 29:29.1 for top honours ahead of former world half marathon record holder, KDF's Kibiwott Kandie.
Kandie clocked 29:35.2 to settle for second place as Cornelius Kemboi came home third in 29:36.4, closing the podium places as well as the sub 30 finishers in the race.
Meanwhile, Ismael Kirui continued his stellar form timing 23:46.6 to pick his third victory in the 8km Under-20 race in as many appearances.
Reynold Kipkorir and Dennis Kipkurui clocked 23:55.1 and 23:59.8 for second and third place respectively.
The women's Under-20 race was won by Faith Cherotich, completing the 6km distance in 20:02.8 as Sheila Jebet (20:22.2) and Mirriam Chepkirui (20:28.2) to the other two podium places.
The series continues to prepare athletes for the national World Cross Country Championships trials set for December 10 at Kenya Prisons Training College as the country prepares for the global showpiece set for February next year.
