Chebet, Murei shine in Day One of Kisumu AK Track and Field Meet

Winny Chebet and Rodgers Murei carried the day in the first Athletics Kenya (AK) weekend meet that was staged at Moi Stadium in Kisumu.
Chebet and Murei kickstarted their season on a high after winning the 3000m final in 9:36.82 and 8:10.97 respectively.

In the women's 3,000m finals, Caroline Jepkorir came in second after running two seconds later than Chebet's time.
She crossed the line in 9:38.66 to settle for second place.
Recla Lokrale came in third after an impressive 9:52.67.
The men's 3,000m finals were even more competitive.
Murei finished the course three seconds ahead of second-placed Isaac Kemboi, who raced in 8:13.65.
Stephen Masinde completed the podium in 8:17.83.
The event was followed by the 100m hurdles category where Veronica Chebet emerged as the winner in 15.5 seconds.
Gladys Ngure missed on the top position by a blink to claim second place in 15.3.
The third position was occupied by Jane Chege who ran in 15.5 in the highly competitive event.

Vance Kerubo went home smiling after winning the women's 400m hurdles event in 62.6 seconds. She was closely followed by Gladys Ngure in 63.0 seconds.
Ngure doubled the 100m and 400m hurdles category.
Florence Akinyo wrapped up the top three in 63.7 seconds.
The women's 60m finals were highly competitive, but Eunice Kadogo defied the challenges to lead the contingent in 7.3 seconds.
Esther Mbagari settled for second position in 7.6 while Damaris Mutunga came in third in 7.8.
The competition's curtains will roll down on Saturday, 9 December.
