Chebet, Cheruiyot victorious in ISTAF Berlin

Omanyala finished behind Noah Lyles in the men's 100m.
World 5000m silver medalist Beatrice Chebet, fresh from winning the Commonwealth Games title, was unstoppable as she clocked 14:44.25 to win the Berlin ISTAF meeting, a World Athletics Continental Tour Silver competition held on Sunday.
Chebet had a dominant race that saw her finish more than eight seconds clear of second placed Henes Elly who came in second in a personal best (PB) time of 14:52.87.

Another Kenyan, Commonwealth games bronze medalist Selah Jepleting came in third place, clocking 15:10.14. Eva Cherono’s season best time of 15:27.87 could only afford her fifth place.
Meanwhile, World Under-20 1500m champion Reynold Cheruiyot was back in action after his victory at the junior championship in Cali, Colombia.
The 18-year old clocked 3:35.04, leading a fast race that saw eight runners set personal bests and season bests.
Great Britain’s Mills George was second in a 3:35.30 PB as Parsons Sam completed the podium places with a 3:36.22 PB.
In the sprints, Commonwealth Games champion and Africa’s fastest man Ferdinand Omanyala faced off with two-time world 200m champion Noah Lyles who stepped down in distance to 100m.
The American won the race convincingly in a season’s best of 9.95 as Omanyala came second in 10.11.

African record-holder Marie-Josee Ta Lou continued her strong finish to the season by winning the women’s 100m in 10.94.
Despite the -1.2m/s headwind, the Ivorian sprinter still managed to take 0.04 off Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce’s meeting record from 2015.
