Kenya will have two representatives in the men’s 5000m finals after World slver medalist Jacob Krop and World Cross Country Junior champion Ishmael Kipkurui successfully sailed through Thursday night’s semifinals - finishing seventh and eighth respectively in Heat Two, and in a similar time of 13:33.63.

That was the only positive thing to write home however, as Heat One saw Commonwealth Silver medalist Nicholas Kimeli and Cornelius Kemboi miss out on Sunday’s final after finishing an abysmal 14th and 17th - way off the mark of the first eight.

Kimeli looked to have his race under control early on as he led the leading pack through the first nine minutes but eventually got caught up with 800m to go, seeing him and his compatriot move down the pecking order heading into the final lap to clock 13:40.43 and 13:44.32 respectively.

World Championships bronze medalist Mohamed Katir took the win in 13:35.90, with defending champion Jakob Ingebrightsen putting up a seasonal best time of 13:36.21 .

Heat One was dominated by Guatemala's Luis Grijalva, with the Ethiopian duo - who led the group from the front - of 2019 10000 m silver medalist Yomif Kejelcha and Berihu Aregawi coming in second and third in 13:32.83 and 13:33.23 respectively.

Sunday’s final is scheduled for 2020 EAT.
