Reynold Cheruiyot set a National Record over the rarely-raced 2000m distance as he finished second at the Brussels leg of the Wanda Diamond League (DL) on Friday evening.
Norwegian Jakob Ingebrigtsen finished first to set a new world record over the distance after stopping the clock at 4:43.13, putting an end to Hicham El Guerrouj's 24-year-old record of 4:44.79, with Austrian Stewart McSweyn finishing third.
It was not the best of days for Abel Kipsang who finished seventh after clocking 4:50.68, a Season Best (SB) for him nevertheless, and a place in the final.
In the women's 5000m, Lilian Kasait pulled a strong finish to stop the clock at 14:26.46 and edge Ethiopia's Medina Elsa and Japan's Nozomi Tanaka who finished second and third respectively.
Winnie Jemutai finished fourth but it was enough to seal her a spot in the final while Edinah Jebitok came home ninth to just miss a place in the final all together.
