Battle for Africa Championship places continues at Kasarani

Action concludes on Thursday with the team naming after the races.

Sylvia Kemboi clocked 1:37.20 to clinch the women's national walking race title, dethroning Kenya Dedence Forces' Emily Ngii who came in second in 1:42.53.

Completing the medal haul was Ngii's teammate in the military Grace Wanjiru who clocked 1:45.33 as the three hit the qualifying mark to the Senior African Athletics Championships set for June. 

The three are set to represent the country in the continental championship where Ngii's experience is expected to propel her to yet another medal in the distance. 

Meawhile, hurdlers Priscillah Tabunda and Wiseman Were won their respective races in 13:99 and 13:80 in women's 100m/h and men's 110m/h and are likely to book their tickets to Mauritius. 

In the 400m/h Jane Chege won the title, representing KDF, in 59.21 to finish ahead of Diana Chebet (59.93) and her Police Service teammate Agnes Ngumbi (1:00.70).

Action continues on Thursday with more than 20 final events scheduled including the men's 20km walk, 5000m women and men's final, 3000m steeplechase, 1500m, 800m and more. 

World Indoor 1500m bronze medalist Abel Kipsang will renew rivalry with Olympics silver medalist Timothy Cheruiyot and the Manang'oi brothers George and Elijah

Kipsang who clocked 3:37.14 in the semis leads the field that also has KDF duo of Charles Simwoto and Daniel Munguti

In the women's 5000m, former World Under-20 5000m champion Beatrice Chebet and National Police Service (NPS) Cross country champion Caroline Nyaga headline the field. 

The men's 5000m race will see Michael Kibet, Daniel Simiu, Ismael Kirui lead the field of 12 in search of the continental ticket.
