Amos recently defeated El Bakkali in the steeplechase, marking a significant triumph over the Olympic champion.

Kenyan steeplechase star Amos Serem has set an ambitious goal with his younger brother, Edmund Serem. The duo looks forward to the 2025 season, aiming for a 1-2 finish at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.

Amos, the 2021 World U20 3,000m steeplechase champion, is inspired by Edmund's recent victory at the 2024 World Athletics U20 Championships in Lima, Peru, where Edmund won gold with a time of 8:15.28.

Together, the dynamic siblings are determined to reclaim Kenya’s lost steeplechase glory.

Reflecting on the possibility of competing alongside his brother, Amos expressed that Edmund would be a key motivator.

“If Edmund qualifies, it will give me even more motivation. Together, we form a potent force, and we can push for a 1-2 finish for Kenya,” he told The Star.

The two brothers have outlined a rigorous training plan that includes building a solid mileage base, followed by speed work starting in January. They also intend to compete in the cross-country season to enhance their endurance and overall speed.

A key part of Amos' renewed confidence stems from his recent victory over Olympic and World Champion Soufiane El Bakkali.

Amos recently defeated El Bakkali in the steeplechase, marking a significant triumph over the Olympic champion.

El Bakkali had previously taken the Olympic title from Kenya at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games and defended his dominance at the 2022 and 2023 World Championships.

However, Amos stamped his authority at the Diamond League final in Brussels, defeating the two-time Olympic champion.

“For a long time, we feared El Bakkali when he surged to the front. Now, that fear is gone. Beating him gave me the confidence that anything is possible. I’m more determined than ever going into the 2025 season. I believe we can bring the world title back to Kenya,” Amos shared.

He also credits his growth as an athlete to the experience gained over time.

“I’ve learned to trust my race strategy and push harder when it counts,” he explained.

Amos is now focused on improving his speed over the final 800 meters and refining his barrier clearance, both essential components in the highly technical steeplechase event.
