Amos Kipruto is confident ahead of the 42nd edition of the London Marathon set for Sunday 2nd October
Ranked 6th in the world currently with a personal best of 2:03:13, 30-year-old Amos Kipruto who has been training in Kapsabet, Nandi County, says all has gone well so far.
"Training has been nice; the most important thing is that I have no injury worries," the Tokyo Marathon Silver medalist told Mozzart Sport.
In 2019, Amos picked a knee injury which ruled him out of the Tokyo Marathon days to the race, but he has since fully recovered.
"I have done my part in training and my body has responded well, but training and racing are two different things; if I wake up well on that day, and the weather is good, then I expect to do well."
He will be up against some of the finest marathoners in the world at the moment, including the defending champion Birhanu Legese of Ethiopia, who boasts a personal best of 2:02:48.
Also in the star-studded list is legendary Kenenisa Bekele, who, at 40, and towards the end of his illustrious career, will be seeking to add London Marathon gold to his envious profile.
Bekele has twice come close to winning in London, finishing third in 2016 and second in 2017, but injuries have hampered him in recent years since winning the 2019 Berlin Marathon in 2:01:41.
Amos' main focus on the other hand will be to lower his personal best.
"Bekele is a legend we all admire, he has achieved so much in his career, but as for me, my main aim will be to try to improve on my personal best."
Amos departs for London on Monday next week, however, before he hits the runway, he still has some sprucing up to do.
"I will be training until Monday, I'm still doing some final touches just to make sure that all areas of my training are well covered."
His training partner and roommate Vincent Kipchumba will be making a return to London this year after finishing second the previous year.
