The stage is set for the Great Chepsaita Cross Country Race scheduled for Saturday, 7 December, in Chepsaita Uasin Gishu County.
With preparations in full swing, the event promises to be a thrilling spectacle, drawing over 10,000 athletes and an estimated 50,000 spectators to the serene Chepsaita village.
The second edition of this annual event promises to be more than just a competition.
It is a beacon of hope for education and talent development in Kenya.
According to race patron Farouk Kibet, the race is a powerful step towards empowering Kenya’s children with education, which is the biggest equalizer.
“The race is more than an athletic event. With over 1,000 scholarships worth Ksh.10 million to be awarded this December, we are building a legacy of hope and opportunity. Run with us, as every stride brings us closer together,” Kibet said.
He went on to express gratitude to the sponsors, who have supported the event in cash and in kind, promising them a run for their money.
“The community here and all those involved are ready for the Great Chepsaita race. It’s encouraging to see everyone coming together for such a noble cause,” he added.
The race will be graced by double Olympic marathon champion Eliud Kipchope.
Kipchoge has consistently championed the transformative power of education and emphasized its role in shaping a brighter future for individuals and communities.
He frequently supports initiatives that encourage learning and personal growth.
“Chepsaita is the place to be, and so far so good. This is one of the best races in Kenya and a chance for upcoming athletes to showcase their skills while contributing to education activities,” Kipchoge said.
Triple Olympic 1500m champion Faith Kipyegon will also add a touch of class to the guest list.
The event will feature eight competitive races catering to athletes of all ages and abilities. 500m ( 5-7 years), 1km ( 8-10 years), 2km ( 11-13 years), 4km ( 14-15 years), 6km (U20 women), 8km (U20 men) 10km (elite men and women).
Others are 2km race for 46-55 years, 1km ( 56-69 years), and 500m ( 70 years and above).
Ksh.10 million will be used to sponsor over 1,000 needy students as well as fund projects in 10 local schools.
