
AK Trials: Serem tramples top guns as Obiri wins 10,000m

The World Under- 20 champion finished ahead of Conseslus Kipruto.
Multiple World Athletics (WA) champion in 5000m Hellen Obiri emerged the winner in women's 10,000m with Sheila Chepkirui coming second in the Athletics Kenya (AK) WA and Commonwealth Games trials ongoing at Kasarani.
The double Olympic silver medalist clocked a time of 31:49.88 as Chepkirui finished second at a time of 31:50:13 while Margaret Chelimo crossed the line third in 31:50:22.

Obiri will be in pursuit for her first medal in 10,000m after dominating in the 5000m at the world championships and winning silver both in 2016 Rio and 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
The 5000m champion who has been focusing on road races recently admitted that she is more focused on defending her title in the 5000m as she is yet to make her decision on which race to participate in ahead of the Commonwealth Games.
"I am now more into road races my being here is to motivate upcoming athletes.My focus is to defend my 5,000m title in Oregon and then decide which event to go for in Birmingham. So there is alot to discuss with my coach when we go to camp," said Obiri.
Elsewhere in the men's 3000m steeplechase World Under 20 champion Amos Serem cut the tape in a time of 8:17:03 while Abraham Kibiwot came in second posting a time of 8:17:79 as Commonwealth Games Gold medalist Conseslus Kipruto finished third in 8:18.21.
Kipruto surrendered his second place to Kibiwot as he had already sealed a ticket to the World Championships by virtue of being the defending champion in the event.
