185 athletes have confirmed participation for the penultimate leg of the Continental Tour

The second edition of the World Athletics Kipchoge Keino Continental Tour has received a financial boost after ABSA Bank pumped Ksh 20 million towards the event set for this weekend at the Kasarani Stadium.

Kenya will be hosting the golden tour for the second time in a row after hosting the first edition last year at the Nyayo National Stadium.

The windfall from the bank will go a long way in sorting logistics ahead of the showdown where 185 athletes will be battling for honours.

“It is exciting to see Kenyan athletes do well and it is in this regard that we have partnered with Athletics Kenya for the Continental Tour. As a brand, we draw inspiration from our athletes and I believe the partnership will not only boost the event but also promote tourism through the event,” said the bank’s Chief Executive Officer Jeremy Awori.

While receiving the helping hand, Athletics Kenya president Jackson Tuwei said that they opted for Kasarani owing to the increased number of entries and the success the facility has had in hosting global events.

The administrator further stated that fans who intend to watch the proceedings from the stands will have to wait for the outcome of negotiations between his office and relevant authorities.

“We are grateful to Absa for coming on board to sponsor this edition of the tour. We will have three categories; national, discretionary and core events. We welcome all athletes and officials who have confirmed participation in the event,” he added.

Meanwhile, Cabinet Secretary in the Ministry of Sports Amina Mohamed has reiterated the government's resolve in promoting the industry.
