Shujaa miss out on cup quarters after Scotland defeat

A single unconverted try could have seen Kenya progress to the cup quarter finals.

Kenya men's national sevens side, Shujaa came agonizingly close to sealing a place in the cup quarter-finals but a 14-10 defeat to Scotland saw them miss out on the chance in the on going Seville 7's

Shujaa had a nightmare start to the Seville leg of the HSBC World Seven Series as they suffered a record defeat against Australia but salvaged some pride with a win over Canada.

Innocent SImiyu’s charges had an early chance to go ahead but Alvin Otieno knocked on the ball from a ruck in the five-meter line as Scotland breathed a sigh of relief.

Kenya were meant to pay for their mistakes when Gavin Lowe touched down after another knock-on handed Scotland possession as they carved open the stretched Kenya defence.

Vincent Onyala profited from a line break by Billy Odhiambo who saw his gas empty five meters from a try line up he offloaded the ball for the KCB utility back whose outstretched arm ensured a try for Kenya.

Shujaa should have gone into the break with a lead as they had an overload on the left wing but an overcooked pass from Levi Amunga went into touch as they went into the break trailing 7-5.

Jeff Oluoch was sent into the sin bin earlier on in the second half for a deliberate knock-on but with the man down they took the lead through Johnstone Olindi who recycled play after Nelson Oyoo was stopped a few yards to the try box.

Scotland however responded almost immediately through Ross McCann who run from across the byline to touch down behind the sticks for a favourable conversion that took them to 14-10.

Shujaa were handed a chance in the final minutes of the game when Scotland knocked the ball but they failed to capitalize from the advantage as Scotland proceeded to the cup quarter-finals.
