Kenya Under-20 and Kabras fullback James Olela is still enjoying the sweet smell of success after landing a golden chance with Rhinos' High-Performance Training Camp in South Africa.
The 2023 Enterprise Cup winner with Kabras will join the camp in Gordon Bay in the Western Cape. The Rugby 10s Championship facility will see the selected players join the camp for 7s training, and the camp will also focus on preparing the players for the Tens Series and Rugby 10s Champions.
Expressing his delight with the opportunity, Olela was glad that training alongside other talented players would propel him to another level in his rugby career.
"It is an opportunity to improve in all facets of play and become a better player. I am looking forward to training with some of the best players in South Africa,” he offered.
He was a key member of the squad that won the Enterprise Cup last year when they came from behind to beat rivals KCB 29-28. He was also in the team that represented Kenya in the Barthes Cup in April as well as the World Rugby U20 Trophy in July.
Commenting on the achievement, Kabras RFC head coach Carlos Kyatwa noted that it was the way forward for the dedicated youngsters. He was confident that Olela would register great results.
“It's an opportunity for him to improve his skill set and get to learn from some of the top coaches in South Africa,” the excited Kyatwa averred.
Olela will join several international players getting developed and shaped at the facility in the program that will run from January 10, 2024, till April 30, 2024.
He will join Collins Shikoli and Alvin Marube on the list of Kenyan players that have been part of the Rhino’s training program.
Fellow Kenya U20 player Edmond Omondi was also part of the Rhinos’ squad that participated in the Dubai 7s under 19 invitational tournament with the Rhino 10 select team.
