Reading Time: 2min | Thu. 27.04.23. | 10:49
The new dates have been set for May 20-21
Nakuru 10s aside, the prestigious tournament hosted by Nakuru RFC during the month of April will not take place this weekend 29-30 as initially planned. Instead, the tournament will be held from May 20-21 at the same venue, the Nakuru Athletics Club.
According to the organizers, the delay in planning was due to lack of funding and sponsorship. On the day that the tournament would take place, the organizers have set up the Nakuru Banter Cup that will see three teams participate in a round-robin format; Team West, Team East, and Egerton Njoro.
The tournament is making a comeback after three years in the cold. It was last held in 2019 and had to be cancelled in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Great Rift 10s is a rugby tournament hosted in Nakuru to celebrate Rugby and Kenyan culture. The tournament attracts top teams from the country and includes women and school categories with a lineup of activities. About 40 teams were expected to take part in the cancelled edition which was divided into two divisions.
Menengai Oilers are the defending Champions after beating Homeboyz RFC 10-5 at the NAC Grounds on April 21, 2019. KCB Rugby stumbled to finish at third position following a 17-5 win over Blak Blad while MMUST RFC claimed 5th place title after a 33-10 win over Strathmore Leos. Nakuru RFC lifted the challenge trophy.
