Little Sports Academy recently formed an alliance with Braeburn International School Mombasa to further develop their own Rugby League/Rugby Academy that is aimed at offering quality training/playing fields, equipment, and quality coaching in continuous rugby development
Coastal-based age-grade rugby team, Little Sports Academy have set the bar high after finishing second in the final edition of the Kings Shield Cup that was held at the Bahati Stadium in Nakuru on October 21.
The coastal giants defied the energy-snapping Nakuru weather to reach the final stage where they went down 19-0 to Gilgil Secondary School after a spirited fight.
Speaking to Mozzart Sport, the team's coach Michael Flynn described their opponents as worthy, noting that his charges picked the lessons.
"That was a bittersweet moment for us as we came up against a really tough team. We took a lot of lessons out of the game and we look forward to the next challenge. All the teams had excellent points we learned from but hats off to Gilgil Town Secondary as they are the reason we are number 2," Flynn offered.
The tactician also attributed the success of the team to discipline and teamwork. He pointed out that players understood their roles and supported each other.
The forward-thinking coach further noted that they were aiming at a bigger number in 2024, in addition to feeding the Safari 7s age-grade national team with several players.
"We look forward to National selections of Safari 7s as several of our players will be representing Coast. In 2024 we will expand to more schools and more children will be joining our grassroots development academy," he offered.
With the Kings Shield Cup now behind them, coach Flynn revealed that they will be using this long holiday to nurture more talents.
School-going children are on a two-month holiday, a period that the tactician believes can do wonders for a child's talent if utilized well.
"We will have much more training with the children, building towards 2024 and improving our academy's resources and direction," he assured.
His sentiments were echoed by LSO project manager Maisy Gira who was excited that the teenagers were engaging in healthy activities like sports during holidays. Gira noted that they had extended training periods to accommodate as many children as possible.
"We have extended training periods that start at 8 am till 4 pm we are really appreciative to the parents for giving us an easy time during this period. It is exciting to see the teenagers engaged in healthy sports, learning values, and participating in this character-building sport," the eloquent Gira told Mozzart Sport.
