The Sports Disputes Tribunal ruled that the elections held in September were null and void.
Following the recent ruling of the Sports Disputes Tribunal (SDT) that Kenya Ruby Union’s (KRU) elections were null and void; the Union’s Chairman Oduor Gangla now says they will comply with the ruling.
“We are in receipt of the ruling from the Tribunal and we will comply with it. We have scheduled an emergency meeting of the board later today (Wednesday) and we will issue a comprehensive statement after that. We will look at the ruling and then comply with areas where we fell short.” Gangla told the media.
The SDT ruled that the elections be held again in the next 60 days and must comply with the electoral principles.
On that, Gangla said that they are willing to redo the elections within the time given.
“The other term limits are coming to an end in March and we will discuss as a board whether we do everything together or separate but we are willing and ready to do the elections within the stipulated time," he added..
The now nulified elections saw Joshua Aroni elected as treasurer, Ian Mugambi Secretary General, Oscar Mango as director and Moses Ndale as Vice Chairperson.
The Tribunal cited a number of issues, including insufficient notice, which was not approved by the Union, the absence of a five-member Independent Panel as required by the Sports Registrar's Regulations, the Registrar's directives allowing ineligible members to vote, and the observers' potential for unintentional interference with the elections' outcomes.
The Tribunal has also mandated that a five-person, impartial panel conduct the election.
The five will consist of the CEO of the Union, who will not have voting rights, as well as two nominations from the current board; a man and a woman, one representative from the Kenya Cup, Championship, and Women's Rugby.
