Kisii Rugby School is making significant strides in nurturing well-rounded individuals who are excelling not only in sports but also in their academics.

In the recently released 2023 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results, the side produced 27 players who were guaranteed straight entry to university.

The team's captain Carl Atogo Mogasi led by example, managing a clean A-. Edwin Omari who plays halfback position scored a B+. The team also had six players scoring a B+, eight more scoring a B+, five scoring a B-, two C+, and one C plain.

In an exclusive with Mozzart Sport, Kisii Rugby School tactician Nelvin Nesta praised his charges' efforts, noting that their dedication was finally bearing fruits. Nesta also pointed out that the milestone will motivate them to achieve more.

"The best feeling ever. It's just like how a parent feels when their children succeed. The boys were disciplined and we knew they would make it," he said.

Recapping the past year, Nesta was pleased with his charges' performance, and he was optimistic about more exploits in 2024. The side won the Maseno Open title before winning the county and regional championships. They also managed a maiden national appearance in the 15s version of the game.

As if not enough, the spirited boys retained their Prescott regional championship title to finish their year on a high. He noted that this year, they would be keen to build on their past success.

“2023 we had a very fine year. Success is hard but we are viewing it as a stepping stone for us to continue in our dominance. This year, our main aim is to qualify for the East African championship," he offered.

The tactician was also hopeful that his charges would proceed to the campus, despite some of them coming from very humble backgrounds.

Nesta further called on the Kenya Rugby Union to take advantage of the talents at the grassroots programme and invest in the young souls. He called for the training of more technical officers and match officials at the lowest stage

"I am urging the union to develop rugby from the grassroots. That's by ensuring we have more coaches, strength and conditioning first aiders, and match officials countrywide. Let them bring about those clinics often," Nesta urged.
