After recovering, he continued to deliver impressive performances before landing the deal in New York.

Long-serving Menengai Oilers player Harold Anduvate has signed a deal with Old Blue RFC in New York City. He joins former MMUST players Timothy Mmasi and Monate Akuei in New York.

Confirming the news, the former Oilers skipper noted that this milestone not only marked a turning point in his professional journey but also validated the sacrifices he had made along the way.

“I am currently playing for Old Blue RFC, based in New York. The experience has been great so far, especially having the opportunity to play in the nationals,” he said.

He noted that there isn’t much difference between rugby in Kenya and his new environment. What stood out to him was the broader scope of learning. Beyond refining his rugby skills, he is gaining valuable soft skills, which are equally crucial to his development.

“There isn’t much difference, as rugby here is also growing. Maybe just focusing more on soft skills and team marketing, both by players and the club, to attract more corporate investment in the sport,” he added.

Anduvate was one of the longest-serving players at the Menengai Oilers. He began with the team when they were in the Nationwide League and played a crucial role in their rise to the Kenya Cup. He showcased brilliant performances with his former club, including being part of the team that won the Great Rift 10s.

On Sunday, 21 April 2019, he led the Menengai Oilers to their maiden major trophy during the Great Rift 10s. His impressive performances earned him a place in the Kenya 7s squad.

He made his national team debut that same year during the Hamilton Sevens. The Menengai High School alumnus was becoming a mainstay in Shujaa’s setup, but fate had a different plan.

On Saturday, 23 October 2021, during a build-up match between the Kenya 7s team and Kenya Chipu, in preparation for the Safari Sevens, Anduvate suffered a devastating injury that left him broken, both physically and emotionally.

After the distressing incident, Anduvate underwent surgery just a few days later to repair his torn anterior cruciate ligament but faced several setbacks in his recovery journey.

After recovering, he continued to deliver impressive performances before landing the deal in New York.
