The final Pool game against Australia is slated for a 12:50 pm (EAT) kick off.
The stunning 12-all draw between Australia and Uganda on Saturday disrupted the national men’s rugby sevens, Shujaa’s plans of advancing to the quarter-finals of the Commonwealth Games as they take on the former on Saturday.
Shujaa can however still punch a ticket to the quarter-finals of the tourney despite a low-scoring loss to Australia on Saturday as they possess a healthy points difference of 58 while Uganda’s currently stands at -13.
Damian McGrath’s side had a perfect Friday as they kick-started their tournament with a 27-14 win over sworn enemies Uganda and closed the day with a 45-0 whitewash of Jamaica.
Speaking after the game against Uganda, McGrath admitted that Shujaa had a near-perfect first half but a lapse in concentration allowed the Cranes back into the game.
“We started off well but I think the emotion of the whole occasion soaked up a lot of energy from us in the end and we got scrappy, but all you can do one day is to win. You don’t get trophies on the first day, so a win is a win for us.”
I have coached previous teams against them, so I can tell you for free that they are no pushovers- I think to win in the manner we did, you got to be happy,” said McGrath.
Australia are also in danger of a shock Pool elimination should they suffer a heavy defeat to Kenya and Uganda beat an already eliminated Jamaica by an emphatic score line.
Kenya has struggled against Australia in recent times, winning only one game in the last 10 with a 19-all draw also being registered in the run of games.
