Benjamin Ayimba who guided Shujaa to their first and only series title is appealing for funds after being diagnosed with cerebral malaria.
Former Kenya Sevens head coach Benjamin Ayimba is in critical condition after developing cerebral malaria with a medical funds appeal launched to cushion the Ksh2 million bill.
Ayimba is currently placed in the High Dependency Unit (HDU) at a hospital in Nairobi with reports claiming that he cannot speak or recognize anyone.
The former Kenyan international has had a bout with the illness since 2020 with visits to the hospital failing to properly cure the condition.
Kenyans have been urged to unite and raise funds for his ballooning medical bill that currently stands at Ksh 2 million.
“Benjamin Ayimba aka Benja is a true living and national hero of Kenya. Benja has been in and out of hospital since late 2020 after being diagnosed with cerebral malaria. His condition has deteriorated rapidly, and he needs all our help more than ever.”

“We are appealing to all well wishers to help contribute towards getting him the best medical treatment possible and back on his feet again. The current bill stands at over 2M. Your prayers and contributions big and small will be greatly appreciated,” read a statement from KRU.
Kenyans willing to contribute are encouraged to do so through Paybill Number: 8021673 under the name, Benjamin Otieno Medical.
Ayimba is fondly remembered for guiding Shujaa to their first ever Series title when they bagged the Singapore Sevens back in 2016.
During his playing days Ayimba represented Kenya in two Rugby World Cup Sevens in 2001 and 2005.
