The top three finishers will get tickets to the World Cup while top two will go to the Commonwealth Games.
The men’s national 7s rugby team, Shujaa, will begin the hunt for a place in the 2022 Rugby World Cup Sevens when they take on Senegal in their first match of the 2022 Rugby Africa Men’s Sevens Tournament that will be held at the Kyadondo Grounds in Kampala, Uganda this weekend 23-24 April 2022.
In the two-day event that doubles up as qualifiers for both the prestigious World Cup set to be held in South Africa later in September and the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games in July, Shujaa enter the 14-team competition as the defending champions and the side to beat.

Back in the last edition held in 2019 in South Africa, the Innocent Simiyu currently coached side swept aside Uganda 29-0 in the final to lift the trophy that they seek to defend after two years of the competition failing to take place due to the novel coronavirus pandemic.
With Shujaa having already qualified for the Commonwealth Games owing to their results in the HSBC World Series, the task for the team is to be among the top three teams who will grab the tickets to Cape Town.
The #RugbyAfrica7sUG, which will act as the qualifiers for the 2022 Rugby World Cup 7s and Commonwealth Games, kicks off tomorrow in Uganda.

Ahead of the task, Simiyu noted that going into the tournament, Shujaa only have their sights on achieving one thing and making their intentions known when the ball gets rolling.
“The task is to qualify for the Rugby World Cup. For us, as much as we want to qualify, we also want to make a statement to Africa as defending champions,” Simiyu said.
The tournament gets underway with Shujaa taking on 2019 7th place finishers Senegal at 0800EAT.
