Teams from more than 20 countries who battled their way through qualifiers and national finals will tip off in front of one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, the Pyramids of Giza, for the climax of world's biggest 3×3 streetball tournament.

Skipper Mathew Langat believes his side Team Tusk, who will represent Kenya at the Red Bull half court world final have what it takes to be on the podium.

The side comprised of Langat and his United States International University (USIU) teammates Larry ShavangaDerrick Olang and Gab Moranga won the qualifiers held in November last year to book a ticket to the event set for 30 September to 1 October in Egypt.

Langat admits that support from the sponsors for the team's preparations has been inadequate but the squad has taken it upon themselves to ready for the task ahead.

"We started the team in 2021, participated in a FIBA tournament which we won. We have since taken part in more tournament including the qualifiers for the Red Bull event.

Since qualifying, we have played eight local tournaments, winning six and while the competition was not taught, that has helped us get ready for this tournament," offered the skipper further explaining that the team has since rebranded from Nameless, the name they competed under last year, to Tusks after landing sponsorship from Canopy Sport who have a subsidiary company dealing with sports talent identification under the same name.

Langat says that the team is looking to compete against their own past performance and will be glad to more improvement inspite of the results.

"We know the level of competition, speed and intensity will be different from what we are used to. However, we are excited to be competing at the world level and we want to enjoy the experience.

We are looking to improve on our decision making, minimise on mistakes and fight for a podium finish," added Langat.

Kenya will be represented in the women's category by University of Nairobi (UoN) Dynamites.

Skipper Sharon Gaceri admits that preparations have been hectic since the varsity has been on break but maintains that they are ready.

"For some of us, this is a dream come true. Every athlete wants to compete at the highest level of their sport and for us, this is a great chance to go up against some of the best teams.

We are both excited and jittery sewing as this is our first international duty. We will, however, strive to do our best and have fun while at it," offered Gaceri.

The Dynamites team has Gaceri as captain with Faith Otieno Alisha Ellora and Elizabeth Okumu forming the squad.
