Winners pocketed 1.2 million shillings
The Kenya trio of Nick ‘Commander’ Okoth, Samuel Njau and Elizabeth Andiego were made to content with second place finishes at the 2022 Africa Boxing Confederation Championships held in Maputo, Mozambique after losing their respective bouts in the finals of the competition.
The three Kenyans had successfully made it to the championship deciders after semifinals wins on Thursday and were looking to finish in style by bringing home the coveted gold medal. That however was not to be as they all went down to defeat.
Okoth, who was on course to defend his light weight title after eliminating Algeria's Walid Tarzout in the second round, leaving his opponent not only with a loss but also with a dislocated shoulder in a contest that was stopped on medical grounds, saw his title slip away after losing on split decision to Zambian Chilata Andrew.
