The last-eight competition continues on Friday, 25 June, with nations fighting for a sole ticket to Tokyo Olympics next month.

Kenya women’s and men's beach volleyball teams are through to the final round of the Olympics qualifiers ongoing in Morocco.

In a must-win encounter against Mozambique in a golden (decider) match, Kenya's men's team came from a set down to win by two sets to one ( 21-17, 17-21, 8-15) to book a slot in the final eight where they play seven other teams for a chance at the Olympics slot.

The duo of Brian Melly and Enock Mogeni had played for a 2-1(18-21, 24-22, 19-17) loss against Mozambique's first team while Ibrahim Oduor and James Mwaniki beat Mozambique’s second team 2-0 (18-21 , 13-21) to set up the decider match.

In earlier matches the Kenyan men, who were in pool B alongside Mali, Mozambique and Nigeria, had failed to go past Nigeria in their opening pool 'B', losing the golden match 2-1(13-21,21-19,13-15). But won against Mali to set up the must-win encounter against Mozambique.

Kenya is now set to play the hosts Morocco, Tunisia, Mozambique, Ghana, Egypt, Gambia and Rwanda.

Meanwhile, the women’s team, placed in pool B that also had Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Cape Verde and Nigeria also qualified for the final eight without playing their final group matches against DRC who pulled out of the competition with reports indicating some of the team members tested positive for Covid-19

In the other group stage matches, the Sammy Mulinge-coached women dug deep to win against Cape Verde 2-0 (21-13,21-17) in the golden match played on Tuesday as the FIVB Continental Cup cum Olympic qualifiers served off.

The pair of Gaudencia Makokha and Brackcides Agala, which forms Kenya Team One, won against Cape Verde Team Two pair of sisters Ludmila and Janice Varela 2-1(21-17,17-21,15-9).

Kenya Team Two pair of Phoscah Kasisi and Yvonne Wavinya fell to Cape Verde Team One consisting of Marly and Zina 2-1(21-9,14-21,15-13) to set up a golden match staged to break the tie between the countries. Makokha and Agala won the decider match.

Against Nigeria, Mulinge's charges triumphed 2-0 headline pool B.
