Ulinzi Sharks picked easy wins against Rising Stars and Net Navigators.
Richard Momanyi was the star of the show as his side Thika Engineers shocked Strathmore University 24-22 in a highly charged match played on Saturday 4 March at the Nyayo National Stadium.
Up against his former side, Momanyi was well aware of all the loopholes to exploit as he led his team to victory with five goals as Andrew Odoyo added four to the final tally.
"We are still targeting the Super Cup and after last week's loss to General Service Unit (GSU) we knew this was a must-win game to keep that hope alive. We went back to work and corrected our defense and conversion and it has paid off. We are approaching the remaining matches with the same attitude, confident that we will finish in the top six for a Super Cup slot," Momanyi offered after the win.
Thika led 11-09 at half time with the two-goal advantage remaining as the difference, for the better part of the match and the winner. The varsity side never took the lead at any point in the game.
Strathmore had four of their players scoring four each but but that was not enough to hand their side the points.
"We did not give our all at an individual level in this match. We are good tactically but the lack of hard work allowed Thika to dominate and win this match. We now find ourselves in unchartered waters as we have not been in such a situation, where we are at a risk of missing the Super Cup in a long time,"
"I am not happy with how we have been playing and something needs to change going forward. We are no longer chasing the title, our focus is solely on improving things as a team," Strathmore head coach Peter Mwathi said after the match.
National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) skipper Timothy Kirimi maintains that his side is on course to winning yet another Kenya Handball Federation (KHF) men's league title. https://t.co/imKccMjTjw

The Jack Ochieng-led side are now tied on six points with Spartans but still at the bottom of the 19-team log.
