Historical match of the Serbian centre

Nikola Jokic has once again redefined basketball history, becoming the first player ever in the NBA to record at least 30 points, 20 rebounds, and 20 assists in a single game! In Denver Nuggets' high-scoring 149-141 victory over the Phoenix Suns, the Serbian superstar posted an astonishing stat line of 31 points, 21 rebounds, and 22 assists.

Until now, only Russell Westbrook and Wilt Chamberlain had managed 20/20/20 performances, a feat once considered unbreakable. Yet, Jokic continues to push the boundaries of what is possible in basketball. His dominance is truly unprecedented—over the past 50 days alone, he has registered two games with 30 points, 20 rebounds, and 15 assists, something no player in history has come close to achieving.

The historic nature of Jokic’s achievements brings to mind another legendary triple-double feat. In the 2016-17 season, Westbrook broke Oscar Robertson’s long-standing record by recording his 42nd triple-double of the season, seemingly an unbreakable milestone at the time. Coincidentally, Westbrook’s record-breaking game came against the Nuggets, eliminating a young Jokić and Denver from playoff contention.

Fast forward almost eight years, and the tables have turned. Now teammates in Denver, Westbrook and Jokic find themselves on opposite trajectories. Westbrook, nearing the end of his illustrious career, currently sits at 202 career triple-doubles. Jokic, with 159 and years ahead of him, is closing in on Oscar Robertson’s 181, and eventually, Westbrook’s all-time record.

With 29 triple-doubles this season and 19 games remaining, Jokic needs just 14 more to surpass Westbrook’s single-season record of 42. At his current pace, another seemingly untouchable record may fall.

In Denver’s victory, Aaron Gordon also shined with a career-high 7 three-pointers, totaling 27 points. Christian Braun added 25, Jamal Murray contributed 19, Michael Porter Jr. had 16, Westbrook chipped in 14, and Peyton Watson scored 11.

With history being rewritten every night, one thing is clear—Nikola Jokic is not just great; he’s legendary.
