GSU struggled to find their footing in the initial stages of the last season but the tactician maintains that the squad is ready for a better start this season

Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) men's league defending champions General Service Unit (GSU) head coach Gideon Tarus says his squad is ready for action with the season-opening leg set for 26 November in Kapsabet.

The tactician is looking to guide the side to another title, no mean feat considering the competition experienced in the playoffs last season but to help his side achieve the feat, he made one addition to the squad to help strengthen his squad.

Tarus has acquired the services of 20-year old left attacker Joshua Kimaru who joins the paramilitary side from Equity Bank.

Initially, Kimaru was brought in to step into Wafalme Stars' and the club's outside hitter Cornelius 'Nder' Kiplagat who was set to join Egyptian military side El Gaish and had already left the country for the Egyptian league set to throw off this week but his deal with the club did not fall through.

"Kiplagat is back with us so we will use both players interchangeably. First I will want to give Kimaru the chance to get used to our systems in a competitive setting then bring in Kiplagat when his experience is needed on the field,"

"I am confident Kimaru has what it takes to fit in my starting lineups against any team. He is a talented and energetic player and will do well learning under a witty and experienced player like Kiplagat," offered Tarus.

The tactician further reveals that Kiplagat may well be on his way out again as more offers are on the table so Kimaru remains husain player in the left position.

In addition to the 13 teams that competed in the men's league last season, Prisons Central, Trail Blazers and Prisons Nyanza are the new additions bringing the total a 16-team league.

In the women's league Ashton make a comeback after missing out on last season's action to make it a 10-team league.

The order of matches will see defending champions General Service Unit (GSU) and Prisons Kenya women take on Kenya Army and Nairobi Prisons respectively in the first round of matches. In the second round, GSU face Prisons Central while the women's league holders take on title-chasing KCB.
