League action continues on Sunday 4 July with newbies Amazon Women set to play Rangers in the first match of the day

Strathmore University men's handball team remain unbeaten in the local league as they beat Caleb Akhumbi's Kahawa to pick their third win of the season in as many matches.

Simon Mutuku and Maxwell Munene led the charge for the Peter Mwathi-coached side, contributing eight goals each for the varsity side. Abel Kemei, who switched camp from Rangers HC to Kahawa for the new season painfully watched as his seven goals went down the drain in his side's loss.

The first half was closely contested with Kahawa ensuring the title-chasing Strathmore remained within reach at 19-12 as the match headed for the breather. The scholars, however, returned for the second half with a vengeance to score 17 goals while restricting the opponent to just seven for the win.

Kahawa's goalkeeping department played the bigger role in stopping Strathmore in the first half but, having devised a way to beat the soldier's traps, the varsity side went on a scoring spree in the second half. Kahawa, who are making their debut in the league, are yet to register a win in three matches.

"Our game is still a work in progress but we played a better match compared to last weekend's show. We played better offensively and our chemistry is way better. The second half we were settled and calculative on offense. The coach's philosophy of defense always works for us and it proved the winner in the second half," said Munene in a post match interview.

Meawhile, Rangers HC had Kelvin Talam to thank for their slim 30-28 win in their clash against Kenyatta University (K.U). Talam slotted in a third of their goals for their first win of the season.

The Gerald Juma coached side's female counterparts were not as lucky as they fell 30-27 to K.U women. Doris Anyango top scored for the winning side at 10 goals while Joan Moraa made nine for Rangers.

Defending champions National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) threw off their season with a 37-20 thrashing of Technical University of Kenya (TUK). Tigers fell 45-39 to Thika in a Kenya Defence Forces' derby while Ulinzi made easy work of Generation in a 54-16 outcome to extend their unbeaten run to four matches.
