Many had called for the list to be made public for accountability purposes
Team Kenya's delegation to the Paris Olympics set to kick off on Friday 26 July was published on Thursday 18 July.
In total, the Kenyan contingent will comprise 81 athletes, 26 coaches, 6 team managers, a chief medical officer, two doctors, 8 physios, and three technical officials.
A 26-person management team that includes finance, logistics, media, athlete representatives, and anti-doping personnel has also been released.
Also making the trip are the International Olympic Committee (IOC) family delegates including Dr. Kipchoge Keino, National Olympics Committee of Kenya (NOC-K) president Dr. Paul Tergat, NOC-K Secretary General Francis Mutuku, Humphrey Kayange, and AK president Jack Tuwei.
The list released by the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports has included Kevin Kipkorir, the winner of the national trials, who was not part of the traveling squad following a late omission from the team.
Kipkorir was part of Kenya’s mixed 4x400m team that ranked within the desired top 16 places, guaranteeing their spot at the Summer Games.
In an interview with NTV Kenya, Athletics Kenya revealed that Kipkorir had not met the required number of doping tests, while also attributing some blame to the Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya (ADAK), an explanation that caused uproar demanding his reinstatement to the team.
Efforts by Mozzart Sport to reach relevant AK authorities for an explanation of the latest development, before publication time, proved futile as calls went unanswered.
Meanwhile, Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) vice president Paul Bitok who had initially announced that he would step aside from Malkia Strikers’ technical bench has been listed as assistant coach to Japheth Munala.
This, despite a message by the renowned tactician, who acted as the team’s technical director at the FIVB Challenger Cup and in Miramas camp, hinting at his return to Kenya as the team proceeds to Paris on Friday morning.
“I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to NOC-K and 2024 Olympics officials for your support, especially to me, during the preparation period for the Malkia Strikers team. As my program concludes tomorrow (Saturday) and I prepare to return to Kenya, I want to take this opportunity to extend my thanks.
To the players, thank you for your cooperation and dedication. To the technical team, your teamwork has been invaluable. And to the team manager, your leadership has ensured the best conditions for the team. KVF federation asante sana for giving me a chance to support the team (sic),” the message reads in part.
