The varsity side lead the best-of-five semis series 2-0

Coach Maurice Obilo had called it! His charges were ready for whatever opposition they faced in the Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) women's league playoffs.

And what better opponent in the best-of-five semis than Equity Hawks, a former champion and a game that the Zetech Sparks had gone 1-1 in the regular league.

The confidence, the brilliant ball handling, the speed, the patience on possession, the fight on defense, the precision on the threes was beautiful to watch from Sparks who lead the series 2-0.

In game one played on Friday night, the varsity side fought hard for a highly celebrated 75-72 victory that got their ball rolling.

With Game Two scheduled for Sunday evening at Nyayo Indoor Arena, it was expected that coach David Maina and Sylvia Kamau would have a day to get their squad playing together and find a solution for the free-scoring varsity side.

However, Obilo's charges were even harder to beat for Hawks in Game Two, dominating in almost all fronts for a 73-57 win that put them in a good place to make the final.

In Sunday's match, Sparks went up 22-16 in the first quarter, nine scored from behind the arc as Ashley Minayo led with two for six.

Hawks had their work cut out in the second period and they fought with everything they got but the six-point gap wouldn't go as both sides scored 18 points.

Sparks came off the locker room guns blazing and went 20-10 against Maina's charges for the massive lead that the former champions never recovered from as the final quarter ended 13-all.
