Nairobi is set to become the center of Kenyan grassroots basketball talent this August with the inaugural B.U.I.L.D All-Star basketball tournament.

Scheduled for this weekend (17-18 August) at KFC and Anila Court in Komarock, the event is expected to draw some of the county’s most promising young players, offering them a platform to showcase their skills on a significant stage.

The tournament, held in collaboration with the Nairobi County League, is part of a broader initiative to identify and nurture basketball talent across Africa.

The event will feature partnerships with the ALL-Africa team, who will be instrumental in centralizing data from players participating in the tournament, and creating opportunities for standout players to advance their careers through increased exposure.

Marcel Awori, founder of B.U.I.L.D Sports Africa, highlighted the tournament’s importance for the future of African basketball.

“This tournament is not just about the competition; it’s about providing a springboard for young athletes to reach their full potential while also learning about the importance of mental health and that they have the support of those around them no matter what they may be going through,” said Awori.

“We’re focused on ensuring that the brightest talents get the exposure and opportunities they deserve and continuing to show them that there is a route to use sports to change their lives,” he added.

With Kenya’s aspirations to make a mark on the international basketball scene, the tournament is seen as a crucial step in developing a robust talent pipeline within Kenya.

“The collaboration with the ALL-Africa team brings forward a fantastic opportunity to centralize player data and statistics, which is key to the overall development of the sport and access to further opportunities,” Awori noted.

The BUILD All-Star tournament is anticipated to attract significant attention from sports enthusiasts and media across the region, eager to witness the emergence of Africa’s next generation of basketball stars from the true grassroots level of Kenya.

It also underscores the importance of sports in fostering youth development and community engagement, with the Nairobi County League playing a supportive role in this landmark event, and continuing to provide a platform for the youth to explore their potential and play basketball.

As excitement builds in the lead-up to the tournament, there is a growing sense of optimism about the future of basketball in Kenya and across Africa.

The event promises to be a pivotal moment in the country’s sporting calendar, offering a glimpse into the bright future of African basketball.
