Muthoni Kioi targeting better scores in remaining legs as NCBA Junior Golf enter homestretch

Tsevi Soni had the best score of the day, playing one under par 71 to win the boys 15-18 years category
Karen Country Club’s Muthoni Kioi maintained her superb run in the NCBA JGF US Kids local tour by winning the Windsor Leg played on Sunday 6 October.
Kioi once again won the girls’ 11-12 years category with a score of nine over par 81. She had a good start in the front nine where she played two over.
“Today of course you think there are things that you would like to do better; the second nine somehow, I played seven over, and that got to me,” explained Kioi.
“First nine I was more calm, and I was more focussed. Then the second nine I was stressed because I thought someone could just jump in front of me. So some of the shots I was hitting badly, but my short game again didn’t work today,” she elaborated.
Asked what she wanted to work on for the three remaining legs, she singled out chipping and putting.
“I fixed my long game a while ago because I have added distance on my drive. I need to work on my chipping and putting because, in the last two tournaments, that wasn’t so good. I need more competitions as well outside the US Kids tournaments to have a feel of playing in other clubs,” she concluded.
Junior Golf Foundation trustee Millicent Mello says the season has been good so far with an average of 140 players in the tournaments.
“Performance has also been good as we have seen marked improvement among our juniors, both boys and girls.
They have been recording excellent scores in other tournaments as a result of their participation in the US Kids tournaments,” she observed.
In the girls’ 11-12 years category, Kioi was only one stroke better than second-placed Ashley Muyela with 82 points gross. Zianna Khoda finished with 86 points gross, with Ashley Gachora fourth, one stroke behind.
Adam Nesbitt continues to dominate the Boys 11 years category, winning with 75 points gross. He was way ahead of Henry Ndirangu in second position with 106 points gross and Donnie Mello in third position.
The girls 13-14 years category was a tight contest won by Amani Muriithi with 85 points gross. Yolanda Yu was relegated to second position, just one stroke behind with 86 points gross. Yu was two strokes better than Amelia Sheikh in third with 88 points gross.

“Their performance has been good, we believe at the close of the championship we are likely to see our juniors topping, notably Kanana Muthomi whose performance in the last days has been excellent, to say the least,” explained Mello.
Action moves to Sigona on Sunday 13 October.
