The Kenya Morans basketball team has unveiled their 12-man squad that is set to participate in the second window of the Afrobasket qualifiers.

Morans coach Liz Mills has released her list of twelve players that will represent Kenya in the last window of Afrobasket Qualifiers in Cameroon.

The players named in the list are:

Guards: Griffin Ligare, Erick Mutoro, Joseph Khaemba, Tylor Okari, Preston Bungei, Victor Elektrik Ochieng

Forwards: Valentine Boozer Nyakinda, Ariel Okall Koranga, Joel Awich

Centres: Ronnie Gombe, Tom Bush Wamukota, Desmond Blacio

Reserve: Fidel Okoth

Former team head coach Cliff Owuor will not be in Cameroon for the qualifiers as he failed to secure release from his new employers APR of Rwanda after joining them last year from United States International University (USIU). Hence, paving way for Mills to take over as coach.

Morans are hoping to qualify for the Afrobasket Championship after winning one game of their Group B FIBA AfroBasket 2021 Qualifiers in Kigali, Rwanda late last year. Kenya are convinced they have one foot in the continental spectacle as they only have to win a single game to qualify.

The Morans have been sharpening themselves for close to a month in Nairobi, and the final named squad are expected to fly out to Yaounde, Cameroon on Monday before playing their first game against Senegal two days later.

In the qualifiers, Kenya will face Senegal, Angola and Mozambique respectively from 19th February to 21st February.

Kenya currently lies third in Group B on four points. Senegal leads the table on six points while Angola is second on five points. Mozambique finds themselves in last place on three points.

The top three nations from each of the five pools will qualify for the FIBA 2021 Afrobasket Championship that will take place in Rwanda from August 24 – September 5.
