Mandonga improved his record to 4-3-1 (2 KOs) following his victory over Wanyonyi.

Tanzania’s boxing sensation Karim Mandonga Mtu Kazi has promised to return to Kenya in April this year on the back of tasting victory on Sunday morning after triumphing over Daniel Wanyonyi via technical knockout in their Super Middleweight contest staged at the KICC Ballroom in Nairobi.

Speaking after securing his first victory in his maiden boxing appearance outside Tanzania, the 43 year old assured his Kenyan fans that he would once again return to the country to stage another clash.

“I am going to Tanzania but in April I am coming back to Nairobi to finish my next opponent,” Mandonga said.

Kenya Professional Boxing Commission (KPBC) President Reuben Ndolo and Secretary-General Franklin Imbenzi were over the moon as their move to invite Mandonga turned out to be a masterstroke. Promoter Mike Odongo of Solid Rock Promotions was equally elated by the huge turnout at KICC as he talked about bring back Mandonga.

"I will meet with my team to review the whole show and way forward but Mandonga will definitely be back," said Odongo.

"We will bring Mandonga to Kenya again, he's a good marketer," said Ndolo.

With his fight having been pushed from being the curtain raiser to the main act of the day, the big talking Tanzanian delivered the goods against the Kenyan as he ensured the bout, planned to last for 10 rounds, hnded halfway after Wanyonyi - who looked unfit and ill prepared - threw in the towel after the conclusion of the fifth round following his refusal to answer the bell for the sixth round.

The Kenyan boxer, who had promised to silence the hyper and talkative Mandonga, found himself struggling to impose himself in the clash as Mandonga bossed the opening proceedings with his neat punches and excellent footwork.

After a relatively balanced opening round, Mandonga started laying inroads in the clash as he unleashed punch after punch on Wanyonyi who struggled most times to cope with the intensity forcing Wanyonyi to bury his face under both gloves for safety as attacks poured in waves.

After the win, Mandonga thanked Kenyans for their warm welcome and supporting him.

"Nimesema na kutenda, Mandonga Mtukazi nimempiga Wanyonyi mpaka akaogopa kuja kwa raundi ya sita maanake angeramba sakafu. Wakenya nimewakubali kwa supoti yao kwa kunipa sauti,” he said.

Mandonga has now improved his record to 4-3-1 (2 KOs).
