Over 36 teams are expected to enter in the return of the Kenya Aquatics National Junior Championship slated for Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 August in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu county.
The age-category event is being held for the first time in the country under the new Kenya Aquatics administration, after being on a hiatus that can be traced as far back as the former federation president Ben Ekumbo era.
It is expected that akin previous competitions, teams from Kenya will get a chance to compete against participants from neighbouring countries across East Africa, and invitational nations like South Africa and Namibia.
"We will implement all necessary measures to ensure a successful gala," Kenya Aquatics Secretary General Collins Marigiri said of the state of preparedness of the prestigious gala also set to include teams from Mombasa and Laikipia counties.
"The entire nation has rallied behind this event and we are particularly grateful to the Uasin Gishu County Aquatics Association for their extensive efforts in securing sponsors and partners including the county government of Uasin Gishu.”
The technical committee, led by Omari Omar, is working diligently to ensure that the event meets international standards.
Omar, also a swim coach, has encouraged teams to finalise their entries ahead of the approaching deadline.
"No junior swimmer aspiring for the international stage should miss this meet," he said.
The Kenya Aquatics Federation is committed to fostering the development of young athletes, while working towards its mission of providing structured training programs, exposure to competitive environments, and creating a nurturing community for the sport.
The upcoming championship will feature a range of events for different age groups, all meticulously planned to ensure the highest level of competition.
