East Africa action is set to begin on 15 September in Arusha.
After four days of great battles at the Kenya Secondary School Sport Association (KSSSA) national games, Rift Valley region has produced both boys and girls' champions in hockey.
Holders St Antony's Kitale, under the tutelage of Kevin Lugalia have proven once more that they are the hockey Kings in that level as St Mary's Tachaasis were the undisputed queens of the sport this year.
Lugalia guided his charges to a 1-0 victory in the final beating East Africa champions Friends School Kamusinga (FSK) who came to the nationals as the Western region champions.
"It has been a tough championship, starting off with the pool matches where we were pitted against FSK, Mang'u and Kisumu Day.
We drew with FSK in the group matches but that is a game should have won as I feel we were better than they are this year. Again in the final, the winning margin could have been bigger but I thank God for victory," offered Lugalia.
Heading to the final, St Antony's beat Chewoyet, the second representative from Rift Valley at the games, 3-1 while FSK thrashed St Georges 6-1 to book a place to the EA games.
"We are eyeing a double this year, having lost the EA title to FSK in 2019. We have our work cut out but we want nothing less," added Lugalia.
In a battle of Rift Valley Trans Nzoia Mixed played to a two all draw against St Mary's Tachaasis, sending the match to shoot outs where the latter emerged victorious in a 3-2 outcome.
Both sides have their slots to the EA games guaranteed where they will look to wrestle the title from Uganda who clinched it in 2019.

Meanwhile, the boys' handball title went to Nairobi's Hospital Hill after seeing off Rift Valley's Kamito 30-25
