With the result, the Kenyans are now relegated to playing classification matches with the best possible finish being another fifth-place.

In a repeat of last year’s quarter-final, Kenya’s sole representative at the men’s CAVB African Club Championship, Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) have fallen to Port Autonome de Douala (PAD) of Cameroon to exit the title race.

The Sammy Mulinge-coached side were looking for a better finish than fifth, their ranking in the last two editions they have featured in, but their 3-1 defeat denied them the opportunity for a top four placing.

The dockers started the match on a high winning a highly-competitive first set 27-25 to set the stage for a thrilling clash against the Cameroonians. The second set went PAD’s way in a 21-25 score line to level the score, despite KPA looking strong enough to go 2-0 in the initial stages of the game.

In the third set, the West Africans were dominant winning the set 25-18 before closing off the match off with a 25-22 fourth set victory, breaking KPA’s hopes of going past the quarters for the fist time and fighting for a podium placing.

With the result, the Kenyans are now relegated to playing classification matches with the best possible finish being another fifth-place.
