Kosgei named Stanbic brand ambassador

World record holder in women marathon lands a lucrative gig to champion the course of a local bank empowering women.

Brigid Kosgei, the humble Kenyan who obliterated a long-standing marathon record set by Brit Paula Radcliffe, has on Thursday 4th February 2021 been named Stanbic Bank’s brand ambassador.

The acclaimed roadrunner will be Stanbic’s poster girl in their empowerment campaign dubbed It Can Be. The empowerment campaign targets women and Small and Medium Enterprises (SME’s) in the country.

Stanbic described Kosgei as ‘a fitting international athlete and has achieved a great deal at such a young age and is a true reflection of the brand. Her determination and focus portray the very essence of It Can Be,’ their newly minted slogan

Athletics have a positive impact on youth empowerment, and we shall work with Brigid and like-minded partners to develop talent among the youth”, declared the bank’s chief executive officer Charles Mudiwa.

Speaking at the launch event, Brigid noted that, “Sometimes all we need is a partner who believes in us. We all face challenges in our lives, but these should not deter us from going forth and achieving our goals. Stanbic Bank has been there to support me in my journey and helped me realize that my dreams can come true. Stanbic has been by my side and looks at me holistically and has enabled me to grow as an individual and support my family and community.”

Kenya is a great sporting nation and Stanbic will continue to invest in sports as it is aligned to their pursuit of promoting a homegrown agenda through people. This investment has contributed to a thriving sports economy ecosystem demonstrable in the socio-economic impact across sport, business and youth in the years supported. Mudiwa added.
