Participants will be certified after the program that concludes on Saturday 19 March.

Kenya Handball Federation (KHF) has more than 20 of their coaching members currently engaged in a week-long training programme at Strathmore University grounds.

Hungarian, Zoltan Marczinka, an International Handball Federation(IHF) instructor deputised by the men's national team coach Peter Mwathi are conducting the IHF Level C coaching course with participants set to be certified.

Speaking on Tuesday 15 March, Marczinka challenged the Kenyan coaches to embrace technology for the level of the sport in the country to grow.

“The participants have shown a great determination to learn and that is a good sign. The sport is on an upward trajectory, albeit slowly and the knowledge imparted here will go a long way in improving how they (coaches ) do things and consequently lead to growth both nationally and at the grassroots," the instructor offered.

This is the Hungarian's second visit to Kenya, his first having been in 2013 and in addition to the Kenyan trainees, his clas also has attendees from Rwanda, Uganda and Ethiopia.

"This is a timely course as we look to make changes in the coming league. While this was an invite-only course, we had another program a fortnight ago that was open for all as we look to grow the sport.

The IHF course will give coaches in our top tier leagues a level playing ground and I believe we will witness an improvement in our teams countrywide die to the knowledge acquired here. This will transition to a better, more competitive local league and improved national teams," offered the federation's Fixtures Secretary Charles Omondi

The project is supported by National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOC-K)through Olympic Solidarity.

NOC-K Secretary-General Francis Mutuku welcomed the presence of the Hungarian instructor saying the country stands to benefit from his credentials.

“We have looked at his work and it’s good. We are engaging him on another level where we hope to have exchange programs between the two countries in future,” said Mutuku..
