KCB will take on Kenya Pipeline in the title decider
Outgoing champions Kenya Prisons have finished third in the 2021-2022 Kenya Volleyball Federation season after labouring to despatch the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) 3-2 (17-25,30-28,21-25,25-18 and15-11)at the Kasarani Indoor Arena on Sunday.
The two teams were locked out of the title decider after losing their opening two matches in the playoffs and this, had to contest for the bronze medal.
Prisons lost in straight sets to Kenya Pipeline and KCB while DCI failed to crack a win against the two sides who will clash later in the final.
Prisons head coach Josp Barasa was quick to note that the absence of five key players who are on maternity leave partly contributed to their unsuccessfull title defence.
"Having to do without five players left me with a lean squad but I am glad those who did duty have managed to win bronze. I had young players whom I could not call upon but I believe, they will be ready for the new season," he said.
Asked on the what went south in the opening two matches, Barasa who doubles up as the Strathmore University teams coach said finishing wasn't great unlike on Sunday.
" Our finishing wasn't good in the first two matches and had to work on it heading to today's game. I have young players at my disposal whom I am sure will learn from the seniors. We are not going for a break as the new season is just few weeks away," he said.
DCI head coach Daniel Bor on his part elected to share his piece of mind on what he intends to achieve in the forthcoming season that is tentatively slated to start next month.
Following the loss, DCI who are constituted by a team of youthful players finished fourth with two points.
"I am proud of my players and equally glad with how they have played in the three matches. I do not want to dwell much on what is now behind us. My focus is to prepare the team for the new season which I believe we will do well," he said.
