The event will also provide a platform for Kenya's masters swimmers to prepare for the Africa Zone 3 championships next month

A record entry of 35 institutions have confirmed their place in this year's Kenya Bankers Association (KBA) Interbanks Swimming Championship, which is set to make a big splash on Saturday, 13 September at the Kasarani Aquatic Stadium.

The annual event, which has grown into one of the most anticipated fixtures on the Kenya Aquatics and KBA sports calendar, will bring together bankers from across the country in a spirited celebration of competition, teamwork, and wellness.

This year’s championship, which comes days ahead of the 10th Africa Aquatics Zone Three Championships, carries an extra weight as it is expected to host a number of master swimmers, who are preparing for the October showpiece.

Among the standout master swimmers registered for Saturday is Sylvia Kimani, who on top of representing her bank - Housing Finance - will be building up her pace after making the Kenyan team for the masters category.

Kenya Aquatics Liason Officer George Munene welcomed the swimmers' participation in the competition saying: “As a federation we are standing with the banks during their annual interbanks swimming championship. The championship has grown with the swimmers, and banks are among the institutions that feed masters swimmers into the county and national championships.”

Earlier this year, NCBA Bank extended its support to Kenya Aquatics during the World Aquatics Masters Swimming Championship in Singapore.

They will be one of the significant total institutions which will duel over the weekend, joining a list that includes among others: Diamond Trust Bank, Co-operative Bank, Housing Finance, National Bank of Kenya, I&M Bank, Standard Chartered, Gulf African Bank, Equity, KCB, and Central Bank of Kenya.

"The KBA events represent much more than a battle for titles," Munene said. "They embody the banking sector’s commitment to staff development, physical fitness, and healthier lifestyles—values that increasingly define modern corporate culture in Kenya."

With Kenya preparing to host over 20 nations and more than 5,000 participants next month, a welcome chance to dive into the rising popularity of swimming as a corporate and leisure pursuit.
