Hyundai boss wants five or six wins in 2024

The manufacturer had two wins in the 2023 season

Hyundai Motorsport team principal Cyril Abiteboul has set out his squad’s objectives for this season – with the emphasis on bringing home more event wins.

The Korean manufacturer heads into 2024 with, arguably, its strongest line up yet; unlike for any of its previous campaigns, all five front-line drivers have won at WRC level.

Thierry Neuville and Ott Tänak lead the Hyundai charge for more WRC silverware, but Esapekka LappiAndreas Mikkelsen and Dani Sordo will back the pair up in their rally-winning ambitions.

“We had two wins in 2023,” said Abiteboul. “That’s not enough. We need more. I’d like us to be looking at five or six wins in 2024.”

Reluctant to talk in terms of titles, the Frenchman admitted his team’s points tally wasn’t enough last season.

“We were more than 100 points behind Toyota,” he said. “There were a lot of wasted opportunities. Considering everything, I think we could have scored an additional 200 points. It’s difficult to talk about the championship, it’s a bit too early.”

Tänak returns to Hyundai after scoring a pair of wins with the M-Sport Ford team last season. Belgian driver Neuville landed both victories for the i20 N Rally1 Hybrid in 2023.
