
Former national chess champion lands scholarship in Norway

Former national chess champion Robert Macligeyo has earned a scholarship to study at the Norwegian Business School.
While at the school, Macligeyo who won the national championship in 2024 will study Digital Business.

Macligeyo is a member of the Business Meets Chess and Kids club which pairs children from Africa against various business executives from all over the world.
The club announced that they are incredibly proud of Macligeyo’s move which they said proves that chess is more than just a game but also unlocks global doors.
“With this scholarship, Macligeyo is reimagining his future, gaining the skills to lead and innovate in a fast-changing digital world. His journey from learning the opening moves to mastering business strategies embodies the spirit of ambition and impact that drives us at Business Meets Chess and Kids,” a statement reads in part.
The Norwegian Business School has been ranked as the top business school by the Financial Times for many years.
It has over 21,000 students with school fees ranging from Ksh2 Million to Ksh3 Million per year.
Other local players likely to join Macligeyo and who also belong to Business Meets Chess and kids club are African under-14 champion Elizabeth Cassidy, Vyonne Mwashe, Bernice Wambui, Jammie Kanango and Fantalis Nduta.

Elsewhere, the up-coming Eldoret Open tournament has received a huge financial boost after receiving a Ksh1,000,000 sponsorship from Trace My Car.
The company made the donation at the weekend and organizers said it will go a long way to boost the cash prizes.
Following the donation, the prize fund has now increased to Ksh145,000 from Ksh116,000.
The winner of the Open category will now pocket Ksh45,000 instead of Ksh40,000 with the ladies winner earning Ksh20,000 up from Ksh15,000.
