Tundo and his partner Jessop recaptured the KNRC title with an unassailable cumulative total of 187 points.

A third-place finish for Carl Tundo at the final leg of the Kenya National Rally Championship (KNRC) held in Guru Nanak saw the African champion bag his fifth local title.

Immediate former champion Baldev Chager won the Sikh Union-organised event with Karan Patel coming home second while Tundo, Eric Bengi and Jasmeet Chana completed the top five finishers.

Chager was peerless in the closing round, where he also savoured 3 bonus points for winning the 16km Power Stage at Kudu 2 this wrapping up the championship with 174 points.

“It is such an amazing feeling completing a double of championship wins. We needed a top-nine finish today to win the championship, so we took it very slowly and we are happy to return third overall in the event and win our fifth KNRC title,” Tundo said in an interview.

Meanwhile, Chager was elated with his third Guru Nanak victory which was also his third of the season, equaling Tundo’s three victories this season too. 11 survived the demanding course with casualties including Maxine Wahome, Piero Canobbio, Nikhil Sachania, Kush Patel, and Nanyuki winner Aakif Virani.

“It’s absolutely fantastic emerging the winner in the Guru Nanak which is our home event. I must congratulate my navigator Ravi Soni for a great season and the team which has been spot on with preparations.”
