The Kenya Chess Premier League action returned this past weekend at Scottish Tartan Hotel in Kisumu, with some high-octane matches that shifted the league table standings.
In the first round of the weekend, Nairobi Chess Academy and Club dominated Strathmore University with a convincing 5-0 victory, showing why they are one of the title contenders this season.
Equity Chess Club, the undefeated league leaders, continued their rampage with a 5-0 win over Kisumu Chess Club, further solidifying their position at the top of the table.
In a closely fought encounter, Victoria Elites fell to KCB Chess Club with a score of 1.5-3.5 while the match between Victoria Warriors and JKUAT was postponed following an earlier request from JKUAT due to an ongoing university strike.
KCB Chess Club also recorded another impressive victory by defeating Kisumu Chess Club 4-1. Equity Chess Club did not play as their match against JKUAT was also postponed.
In an unexpected turn of events, Victoria Warriors were edged out by Strathmore University in a tight match that ended 3-2.
The highlight of the day was Victoria Elites stunning 3-2 win over Nairobi Chess Academy & Club, handing them their second loss of the season.
Sunday's matches began with KCB Chess Club clinching a decisive a 4-1 win against Victoria Warriors, while Equity Chess Club continued their unbeaten streak by defeating Victoria Elites 3.5-1.5.
In another nail-biting match, Strathmore University managed a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Kisumu Chess Club, securing crucial points to climb the standings.
Equity Chess Club wrapped up their perfect weekend with a 5-0 triumph over Victoria Warriors, extending their unbeaten run to 7 games.
