Confusion and concern have emerged within the Kenyan hockey community following the unexpected reinstatement of Daikyo Heroes Hockey Club into the Kenya Hockey Union (KHU) Premier League, just weeks after the club had officially withdrawn from the competition.

In a formal letter dated Monday, 26 May, addressed to the KHU Secretary General, Parklands Sports Club player Kelly Adolwa has demanded transparency from the union regarding the processes and criteria used in Daikyo’s return to league action.
The reinstatement, which was not publicly announced, reportedly disrupted scheduled matches involving Parklands Sports Club and KCA-University, who had already made logistical arrangements to travel to Mombasa for league fixtures.

“As you are aware, Daikyo Hockey Club had previously withdrawn its participation from the league, a matter you officially communicated to clubs,” Adolwa wrote in the letter.
“Given this prior decision to withdraw, I respectfully request detailed information regarding the process and criteria that were observed to reinstate the club.”
Adolwa, who has been a prominent voice among players in the Kenyan hockey fraternity, raised several pressing questions, including whether formal procedures were followed, whether clubs and stakeholders were consulted, and whether any changes in policy or eligibility facilitated the decision.
He further asked for any official documentation justifying the reinstatement and inquired whether all clubs were duly informed.
Parklands Sports Club and KCA-University had already finalised travel and accommodation arrangements for their Mombasa matches, only to be informed at the last minute that their fixtures could not proceed due to Daikyo’s unclear status.
“We were blindsided,” said Adolwa. “We didn’t receive any formal communication in advance, and that’s unacceptable for a league that’s trying to grow.”
Adolwa, in his letter, emphasised the importance of fairness and integrity in decision-making. “Understanding the process behind this decision is critical for ensuring transparency and maintaining the integrity of the league,” said Adolwa.
As of Monday 26, May it remains unclear whether Daikyo Heroes will continue with their full set of fixtures and whether the postponed matches involving Parklands and KCA will be rescheduled or cancelled.
Meanwhile, affected clubs await an official statement from the KHU addressing the matter and outlining a path forward.
The ongoing developments come at a time when the Premier League is navigating a tightly packed schedule, with travel and financial considerations already stretching the capacity of many clubs.
For now, the hockey fraternity watches closely, hoping for clarity and accountability from the sport's governing body.
